Comments from Little Kids...
Today I told two of my clients that I was going to have a baby. I know that it is really hard for them to grasp because you can barely tell and usually they make some comment like, "You are too skinny to have a baby" but these kids topped the charts with funny comments.
Kid 1: How do you sleep at night?
Me: I just sleep like I normally do on my side.
Kid 1: What about when the baby cries?
Me: The baby doesn't cry yet, it is too little and can't talk.
Kid 2: Yeah, it needs teeth to talk.
Kid 1: But I can hear it a little right now, it is crying.
...........
Kid 1: Where are you going to get the baby?
Me: What do mean?
Kid 1: Like from Mexico?
(side note: Kid 1 is adopted)
Me: No, the baby is in my tummy right now and when it gets bigger it will be time for it to come out. Just like you were in your birth mom's tummy.
Kid 1: NO I WAS NOT!
Me: Okay you weren't, maybe you should ask your good mommy when you get home and she can tell you. (We call his adopted mother his 'good mommy' because he was adopted later around the age of 5 so he remember his bad birth mom.)

The Joys of Pregnancy...
1. Having random and uncontrolled gases come out of either end of your body. Advice, just look around with a disgusted look on your face like it couldn't have been you.
2. 'Tossing your cookies' while talking on the phone with your mother in the middle of downtown Chicago right on the curb during rush hour (which did happen to me tonight, sorry Mom that you just so happened to be eating supper during this time).
3. Oh and did I mention that I also got some in my hand and then just proceeded to wipe them clean on my pants??...I better get used to wiping nasty things up!
4. Did I also mention that I then went to class like nothing had happened without the chance to brush my teeth?
I am not complaining, just documenting for future entertainment.

Updates
We have reached the 15 week mark! Things are starting to finally look up a little. I still get sick occasionally but it is definitely not a daily occurrence. I just read in our weekly email that runny noses are common right now so with the pregnancy and unexpected winter storm, I am feeling a little under the weather.
Next week we have our 16 week appointment which will be another short one (leave a 'sample', blood pressure, weight check, and questions) but we are pretty excited for our 20 week appointment where we get to see the baby again!
In a few weeks we will be leaving the city and moving out to smaller town living. We could not be moving soon enough, we are both so ready to move right now and think that this will be a much needed change of venue.
Other than that, we are just enjoying selling things on Craigslist that we don't want to move to our new place and eating lots of food.

4. What are you going to do about school?
I am taking the Fall semester off to recuperate and focus my attention and energy on the baby. I will be returning to school in the Spring for only two courses. The following year, I will be involved in my paid internship 3 days a week and taking one course each semester. Light load!
5. Was this planned? (We really hate this question too!)
Yes, we knew what we were doing when we were doing it. Unfortunately, we had 'hoped' for a summer baby so I wouldn't have to take time off school but God decided that we needed to wait a few months and told us that things don't always happen according to OUR plans. Although those were a rough few months of trying and waiting, we feel VERY blessed that things worked out the way they did. We found out two days after visiting both sets of parents, I guess we didn't plan that portion out very well!
6. Did you have any morning sickness?
Yes! Thank goodness that portion of my pregnancy is over. I guess I had it easier than my mom though who suffered the entire nine months. I am still a little tired but definitely feeling a new sense of energy and appetite.
7. Where are you going to the hospital?
We are going to stay with our midwife here in Chicago. We have enjoyed our prenatal appointments thus far in her care and she was just fine with us moving out to the suburbs. Also 'hoping' for a natural birth but understand that things don't always happen according to plan.
8. What does Kyle think about all this?
He is determined it is a girl! So much so that he doesn't even think that we should finalize a boy name! I guess we will just have to wait until September to find out. Oh yeah, and he is excited!
9. Are you still going to participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer?
Yes! Just about one week after signing up, we found out that we were pregnant. Although we knew that there was a possibility that it would happen, based on our past experiences I really didn't think that it would. After consulting with the Avon Walk staff and my midwife, both agreed that I could still walk but told me that I need to listen to my body and take it easy. I will be 25 weeks pregnant during it.
10. Is this why you are moving out to the suburbs?
Yes and no. We had decided that our time was done in Chicago and knowing that we would be bringing a baby into the world solidified our decisions. Plus, we really need laundry in-unit and two bedrooms now!

Olivia Jane Halverson
My sister had her baby yesterday afternoon (3/16). She weighed 8lbs 13oz I think! I am sure there will be more details later in the week on her blog! You can check out pictures on my Dad's blog.

Almost one year ago...
Remember this post (click here)???
Just about one year later we are in the same boat! Oh, I hate laundry and can't wait until one month when I can do it in the comfort of our own apartment! Our deal is that Kyle carries the laundry down and switches the loads and I fold it all. So it is definitely done on Kyle's work and underwear schedule as opposed to mine. I despise coming home from work to find this in the middle of the living room ready to be folded and put away. The new deal is that I will do it all since it is in-unit: I can't carry it down the stairs (too heavy) so that is why Kyle does it now.

We can't believe that you are already two years old. It seems like just yesterday you were a little baby and now you are going to be a BIG BROTHER! Our Lives are Going to Change...
We are moving out to the suburbs!!! Woo Hoo! Kyle has been waiting for this moment since we moved here and it is definitely going to happen this time. We have decided to move out to Naperville which is about thirty-forty minutes to downtown Chicago. We put an application in for an apartment yesterday and are waiting for clearance (which will happen)!
The apartment is about one mile away from a Metra Station that will take me right into Chicago for class and work. Kyle is pretty pumped for the golf course nearby that he gets a discount at for living on the property. It is a two-bedroom apartment with......WASHER AND DRYER IN-UNIT! No more coin laundry!! Also, it is considerably less than what we pay right now to live in our one-bedroom, noisy, laundry-outside-and around the corner apartment.
We will be moving mid-April and can't wait! I am trying to think of a new creative name for our blog since we will no longer be in the "Windy City".
**I also forgot to add that Kyle looked on the internet. Currently we have around 70 sex offenders that live in a one mile radius from our apartment. One of them being just down the street from us! Our new place has about 3 in a one mile radius- which I think is actually further than one mile! Talk about a difference.**

Ethan's Birthday Gift
Sorry for the spoiler Bethany but I already told you what I was making anyways!
I made Ethan a felt board for his 2nd birthday. I think that I had just as much fun playing around with it that Ethan and the new baby (eventually) will have as well. I have tons of extra stuff so if anyone wants me to make them one (free shipping)- all I ask is that you would make a free-will donation to the Avon Breast Cancer Walk that I am participating in!

Spring Break!
I am officially on Spring Break!! Last year, I went back to Iowa for a week and spent time with the Duhn's and Halverson's. This year, I will be staying in Chicago to work....boo! We decided to wait until Bethany has her baby to go back to Iowa so we don't have to go back and forth multiple times.
Also, I forgot to mention that Kyle bought me a really nice camera for my birthday so we have been experimenting with all the features...here are some favorites.

Avon Walk Details
Some of you may know that my mom, her friend, and I are all participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this June. We will walk 39.3 miles over two days. The money raised goes to the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade, whose mission is to fund access to care and finding a cure. They provide funding to organizations all over the country in five areas: medical research, clinical care, support services, educational and advocacy seminars, and community-based, non-profit early detection breast health programs.
To me, this walk is very important. My great-grandmother survived breast cancer but her two of her daughters were not as fortunate. I have seen how my family has had to deal with the disease and want to walk my butt off in order to help raise money so it does not continue down our family tree.
In order to participate in the walk, each individual must raise $1800.00! Yep, you read that right: I have to raise that amount in order to even walk! If anyone is willing to support my fight, they can click on the link below and make a donation online or they can send me a check in the mail made out to: Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Remember that every three minutes, another woman is diagnosed with breast cancer just in the United States!
